I have been writing about the Thin Client solution for several months now, and I am gaining more and more confidence in the solution.  We now have implemented 3 Thin Client computing systems at my school.

  1. Original “beta” system: 1 computer and 3 “seats” (seat = 1, monitor, keyboard, mouse)
  2. English Computer Lab: Two systems that consists of 1 computer and 7 seats
  3. Business Keyboarding Lab: Five systems that consists of 1 computer and 5 seats

We have gained enough confidence in the Thin Client solution, that we will soon be installing several Thin Client systems in our school media center to replace the 24 desktop computers that current reside there.  Overall, we are realizing about a 40% savings in the costs associated with purchasing Thin Client systems versus regular PC systems.

With the downturn in the economy it seems prudent to examine ways to reduce costs without reducing system performance.  Stay tuned…we will be putting our systems through some more rigorous situations.  But for now, go ahead and explore the Thin Client alternative.
